Guru Nanak Jayanti 2022, its history, significance, and importance

Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most sacred and important festivals of the Sikhs. 

Title 2Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the first of the ten Sikh Gurus.

In 2022, the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev will be celebrated on 8 November.

The first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev is the founder of Sikhism. Guru Nanak Ji was born in 1469 at Nankana Sahib. 

His birth is believed to be a symbol of divinity. His birth anniversary is celebrated around the world on Kartik Purnima according to the lunar calendar. 

Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated to honor his life, achievements, and most importantly his legacy of Guru Nanak Devji.

Programs started at the Gurudwara two days before Guru Nanak Jayanti. 

48 hours of non-stop Akhand recitation of Guru Granth Sahib. A day before Guru Nanak's birthday, a procession called Nagar Kirtan is organized. 

It is led by five men known as Panj Pyare, who carry the Sikh triangular flag, Nishan Shah.

The Guru Granth Sahib is carried in a palanquin during the procession.

The procession features Sikhs singing songs, playing traditional instruments, and demonstrating martial arts skills.
