Pele, the football legend dies at the age of 82
The greatest footballer of all time, Pele has passed away, he was 82 years of age.
He scored 77 international goals for his country Brazil. He also scored 1281 (a world record) total goals from 1363 appearances in his career which lasted for more than 20 years.
He was the only player who lifted the World cup trophy 3 times, in 1958, 1962 and in 1970. In the year 2000, he was named the FIFA’s player of the century title.
He was admitted to hospital in November 2022. He was suffering from prostate and kidney related problems.
Pele’s daughter, Kely Nascimento confirmed the news through social media.
She wrote, “Everything we are is thanks to you, we love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”
The hospital also confirmed the news and stated that he died due to multiple organ failure.
Pele’s Twitter handle posted, “Inspiration and love marked the journey of king Pele, who peacefully passed away today. Love, love and love, forever.”
His, original name was Edison Arantes do Nascimento became a star at the age of just 17 and known globally and with his help Brazil won the world cup in the year 1958 in Sweden.
In the knock out stages, he scored the only goal against the Wales in the quarter final, in the semi-final against France he scored a hat-trick, and in the final he scored twice against the host Sweden.
In his first World Cup and at the age of just 17 he became the global star.
