Australia beat South Africa by an inniings and 182 runs.

Australia won the 3 match Test series 2-0 with the a match to go.

Australia defeated South Africa in a home series since 2005/06 for the first time with an innings win in the Boxing Day Test being held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

With this South Africa is in danger of not qualifying for the World Test Championships Final to be held next year in England.

And with this defeat of South Africa, India is in fairly good position to qualify for the WTC final.

India recently defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in a Test Series when they toured the country.

South Africa could play only 69 overs in their second innings scoring 204 runs losing the last 9 wickets at the MCG.

Only Temba Bavuma with the score of 65 and Kyle Verreynne with the score of 33 could provide some resistance. They put up a partnership of 63 runs.

Nathan Lyon, with his off spin was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets giving away 58 runs. Scott Boland too claimed two wickets.

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc’s must be mentioned for his bravery who bowled with a injured middle finger.

Two run outs by Australia did help to dismiss South Africa cheaply too.

Dean Elgar was out yesterday evening itself and the rest 9 wickets fell today.

Sareel Erwee, the other opener was trapped in front of the wicket by Mitchell Starc with a fast and straight Yorker, initially he was not given out but the Australian captain Pat Cummins took DRS and the not out decision was overturned.

Melbourne Test Day 4

No. 3 batsman, Theunis de Bruyn edged a delivery of Boland tto the second slip where Smith took it gleefully althoug Manus Labuchagne did disturb him.

Next to go was Khaya Zondo who was run out with a direct throw by the birthday boy Travis Head.

The last recognized batting pair of Temba Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne tried to defy Australia by putting up 63 runs partnership but it was too little too late.

Kyle Verreynne was trapped leg before by Scott Boland and it was all but over for South Africa.

After that it was Nathan Lyon show who wrapped up the lower order batsmen.

Finally South Africa was bundled out for just 204 runs in their second innings and a handed a loss by an innings and 182 runs with a match to go which will be played in Sydney from 4th of January 2023.

Australia almost qualified for the World Test Championship final and it will be a fight between India and South Africa for the second qualification.

Every defeat of South Africa is a good news for India. India do have a Test Series against Australia at home which will be played early next year.
