Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey…Dark at first but Hilarious, Unique but Inspiring…

OTT Platform: – Disney + Hotstar
Directed By :- Vipin Das.
Cast :- Darshana Rajendran, Basil Joseph, Aju Verghese and others.

It’s a tale of 21 slaps, about domestic violence but hilarious. Domestic violence but hilarious?

Doesn’t it sound contradictory? Definitely yes, but the movie is indeed very funny, it does not solve the larger issue of domestic violence but in a way it shows a path which could lead to even more violence and complicate the issue.

Well, in just pure cinematic sense, the movie does provide a heavy dose of entertainment along with some inspirations too.

This Vipin Das’s movie gives a fun filled ride and also delivers the right message, it’s a quite different from other movies which have been made on the subject of Domestic Violence.

In Malayalam cinema, till a few years back, the slap was the most common thing to show by a good husband towards his wife who crosses the line.

Not anymore though, but the slaps return in this movie, and 21 of those to be precise.

But the number 21 changes everything in this movie Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, and most hilariously too. Well, no spoilers so won’t be revealed more.

Jayabharati (Darshana Rajendran), the protagonist has been raised in a patriarchal society and has no freedom of choice, even she does not have a right to choose her course of study or getting her favorite toys, instead in every point of her life, she had to take whatever she had been given and she has to compromise.

But, all this might seem a rather grim, sad kind of or realistic movie about domestic violence and patriarchy, but wait, it’s not like that.

Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey is full of rip-roaring humour and fun. The writer and the director cleverly Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey make  a fun film, also deliver the right kind of message.

Darshana Rajendran as Jaya gives a power packed performance. She has less dialogues but the way she acts with her eyes and also with her body movements, is simply outstanding.

She is so natural on her portrayal of Jaya that she deserves all the praise she has been getting.

Basil Joseph as Rajesh, the husband of Jaya is brilliant too. His antics and the way he treats Jaya would make anyone hate him so much, and that’s his winning point.

His patriarchal mindset and the ego of men ,he shows perfectly.

All other supporting characters have done their part wonderfully well too.

Other aspects of the movie Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey , like cinematography, background score, art and everything else is on point.

Actually audiences would not care about all those as the story and the screenplay are so good that those are barely noticed.

The movie Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey is on Hotstar now and as it’s one of the best movie of 2022, everyone must watch.
