Droupadi Murmu to be the 2nd woman President of India?
Droupadi Murmu is a 64-year-old tribal woman leader and is contesting the presidential election against Yashwant Sinha from NDA led BJP side.
She will be the first tribal woman President of India and the second woman president after Pratibha Patil If elected.
Among 20 potential presidential nominees on the BJP parliamentary board, she was chosen as the worthy candidate.
She was also the first woman Governor of Jharkhand in 2015.
She became a BJP MLA twice from Odisha and also controlled the Commerce, Transport, Fisheries, and Animal Husbandry portfolios in the Odisha government in a BJP-BJD coalition government.
After winning elections in 1997, she served as a councilor in the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat and also became the Vice-Chairperson of Scheduled Tribes Morcha.
Ms. Murmu completed her graduation in arts from Rama Devi Women’s College. Even though she has enjoyed a good political career, Murmu suffered through much tragedy in her personal life losing both her husband Shyam Charan Murmu and two sons.
